Drones & Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)

Please be aware that recent changes to federal aviation rules in the United States require recreational flights in controlled airspace to obtain authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  The Cornell Tech campus is located in controlled airspace. Please see the FAA website for more information.

Cornell Tech Safety & Security has established UAS Guidelines to help the community safely manage the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS / commonly known as “drones”) on campus and in compliance with FAA regulations.

Safety & Security must approve all Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operations on campus and for Cornell Tech-related business purposes.  Please complete the UAS Flight Request Form and submit it to security@tech.cornell.edu.  We will respond to your request and provide guidance as soon as possible.

UAS Operators must be authorized by the FAA to operate in the airspace above the Cornell Tech Roosevelt Island campus.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
